Beaches in the area....

Isola Bella

ISOLA BELLA, a marine natural reserve, is a great place for snorkeling and scuba diving but also an amazing place for sightseeing as it is the home of the Naturalistic Museum. It is possible to visit the museum on the island for a small entrance fee. Access is only available during the seasonal months. The area offers restaurants and beach clubs where you can rent umbrellas and chairs as the rocky beach is not very comfortable for sunbathing. The bars and restaurants offer local seasonal cuisine, mainly seafood and pasta dishes. It is possible to reach Isola Bella by a leisurely 35-45-minute walk, by car, cable car, or even by bus (Interbus from the bus terminal). The cable car is the fastest way, but the walk down is especially recommended for the view of the bay as you pass the panoramic Terrace Belvedere. The entrance to the trail that leads to the coast road SS114 can be found on the left side of the Belvedere lookout point. After the descent of almost 700 stairs, a small landing with a fountain can be seen. Proceed another 200 stairs or so down, and the pebbles of Isola Bella will be at your feet.

Mazzarò Bay

Mazzarò Bay is the second most popular beach in Taormina. The cable car’s lower station and ticket booth are both located here as well as the public parking lot. Mazzarò is very close to Isola Bella and can be reached by bus, car, or by walking. At the Mazzarò Bay, you find several bars and restaurants with typical Sicilian food and refreshments. On the left side of the beach, you will find a diving center, where scuba diving, boat rentals, and kayak /SUP rentals are available. (You can also ask Sylvia or Francesco about booking your excursion) The Mazzarò beach, unlike Isola Bella, has small pebbles mixed with sand, and it is easier to walk into the water.

Baia Spisone,  Mazzeo & Letojanni

Baia Spisone, Letojanni and Mazzeo in the middle...

The large beaches of Spisone and Letojanni are sand and pebble-type beaches. They can be easily reached by car or a bus (Interbus) within 10-15 minutes. Spisone is the closest, located right after Mazzarò, while Letojanni is more North of Taormina. Letojanni is a small residential town with a long stretch of a promenade with quaint restaurants and bars. It offers beaches that are more accessible than those of Isola Bella. Mazzeo is a fraction of Taormina that is squeezed in right between Spisone and Letojanni. Mazzeo is mostly residential, however, some of our favorite beach restaurants and bars can be found here. We recommend the area for those who are looking for more traditional beaches and lots of dining options.

Giardini Naxos

The first Greek colony in Sicily

Giardini Naxos, located on a bay that lies between Cape Taormina and Cape Schisò, is approximately 10-15 minutes by car or bus from Taormina's center. Founded by Thucles the Chalcidian in 734 BC, it is considered the first Greek colony in Sicily. The Museum and Archaeological Area of Naxos, which displays the ruins of the settlement and the original artifacts is located at the end of the bay. Giardini Naxos is also the home of the local port and has about 3 km of lungomare, or waterfront, which is ideal for leisurely walks and taking in some sun on the local beaches.
